Chicken is in almost every puppy food on the shelf, which makes it the most common thing for a young dog to react to. If he's loose, itchy or simply unenthusiastic, lamb is the sensible next thing to try.
Rice leads this recipe at 27%, with lamb meal at 16% — a single, highly digestible animal protein instead of the poultry blend. It carries almost three times the fish oil of the chicken version at 1.4%, which is worth knowing if skin is part of the problem. Pea protein and soybean meal fill out the protein, and the mineral balance is set for steady bone and teeth development rather than fastest possible growth. Suitable to twelve months, and for pregnant or nursing bitches.

Looking after it
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. If you've switched because of a suspected sensitivity, feed this and nothing else for at least six weeks — puppy treats will undo the experiment. Three meals a day under four months, then two. Fresh water, always.
