A monthly chewable tablet for dogs, built around a single active — afoxolaner, from the isoxazoline class. Given by mouth once a month, it's absorbed into the bloodstream and works from the inside: a flea or tick has to bite the dog to pick up a dose, which is what breaks the flea life cycle rather than just killing the fleas already on the coat. Registered to treat flea infestation, tick infestation, demodectic mange and sarcoptic mange — it does not cover heartworm, intestinal worms or ear mites, which is the gap NexGard Spectra is built to close.

Weight band decides the tablet, not a variable dose within a pack — pick the band that matches the dog's current weight, and re-check it at each purchase since a growing puppy or a dog that's put on weight may need to move up a band.

Looking after it

Indications: Treatment of flea infestation (Ctenocephalides felis and C. canis, ≥5 weeks control); treatment of tick infestation (one treatment kills ticks for up to a month); treatment of demodicosis (Demodex canis); treatment of sarcoptic mange (Sarcoptes scabiei). Not licensed for heartworm, intestinal worms or ear mites — this is the flea/tick/mange-only formulation. Dosing: Monthly for flea/tick; monthly until two negative skin scrapings for demodicosis; at least two consecutive monthly doses for sarcoptic mange. Tablets should not be divided.
