For dogs up to 16 kg who go through everything else in an afternoon.
Nylabone's Extreme Chew is the top tier of their four — the one they build for dogs whose owners have given up on everything softer. Hard nylon, textured, with flavour running right through the material rather than sprayed on the outside, so it doesn't stop being interesting on day three.
The raised bristles that appear as she chews are the bit that does the dental work, scraping plaque as she goes.
Rated for dogs up to 16 kg (Nylabone's Medium/Wolf size). Bone length 12.5 cm.
Materials: nylon with cheese flavouring. Worth knowing: Nylabone state the cheese flavour is artificial and made with non-animal ingredients — there is no dairy in it. That's useful if you're avoiding dairy, and honest if you weren't expecting it.
The flavour pockets take a spreadable treat if you want to make it more interesting.
These are not edible. Nylabone are explicit: the nylon is not intended for consumption. Small bristle-like projections rise as your dog chews — that's the cleaning action working, and it's normal. Large pieces are not. If you think she's swallowed a piece, take the chew away and phone your vet. Always supervise. Nylabone's guidance is unconditional on this, even for the toughest tier. Replace when the knuckle ends are worn down, or when it gets small enough for her to fit in her mouth. There is no time interval — anyone telling you to replace it monthly has invented that. It's condition, not calendar. Size up, never down. Pick by her weight, and if you have more than one dog in the house, buy for the biggest, strongest chewer. No dishwasher. Nylabone specifically rule out the dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, boiling and autoclaving. Scrub under warm water with a brush and a mild non-toxic detergent, rinse well — and inspect it while you're cleaning it. The flavour is right through the nylon, so scrubbing won't wash it out.
