Six whole fish, and the first six ingredients are all of them.
Six whole wild-caught fish — pilchard, mackerel, hake, flounder, rockfish and sole — making up the first six ingredients on the list, all raw. **85% of the recipe is fish.**
Two dogs benefit most. The one who reacts to chicken or beef, since there's no poultry or red meat in it at all. And the one whose coat has gone dull or whose skin is irritated: omega-3 sits at 2.1% with DHA at 0.7% and EPA at 0.5%, coming from whole oily fish rather than a splash of added oil, and that's the ingredient with real evidence behind it for skin. Protein is 38% at 18% fat, grain-free, finished with freeze-dried cod liver. Suitable for all breeds and life stages.
Raw whole pilchard (18%), raw whole mackerel (11%), raw whole hake (10%), raw flounder (6%), raw whole rockfish (6%), raw whole sole (6%), dehydrated mackerel (5%), dehydrated herring (5%), dehydrated whitefish (5%), dehydrated sardine (5%), dehydrated blue whiting (4%), herring oil (4%), whole red lentils, whole peas, whole chickpeas, whole green lentils, lentil fibre, whole pinto beans, pea starch, sunflower oil, dried kelp, fresh whole pumpkin, fresh whole butternut squash, fresh whole zucchini, fresh whole carrots, fresh whole apples, fresh whole pears, dried chicory root, fresh kale, fresh spinach, fresh beet greens, fresh turnip greens, whole cranberries, whole blueberries, whole saskatoon berries, turmeric, milk thistle, burdock root, lavender, marshmallow root, rosehips. Additives (per kg) — Technological: tocopherol extract from vegetable oils 121 mg, citric acid 40 mg. Sensory: rosemary extract 80 mg. Zootechnical: Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 10415 1×10⁹ CFU. Nutritional: zinc 75 mg, copper 11 mg, vitamin B1 9.8 mg, vitamin E 200 IU. Source: Orijen's UK/EU published data. Champion Petfoods do not publish a South African page — but the bag sizes stocked here are the EU metric line, and a South African retailer publishes figures identical to the UK page, so this is the EU recipe rather than the North American one, which differs.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed, and use within six weeks of opening — this is a high-fat food and fat oxidises. **Change him over slowly, across at least a week.** Orijen runs 38% protein and close to 4,000 kcal/kg, roughly a third denser than a supermarket food, so the correct portion looks far too small and switching abruptly gives most dogs a bad few days. Weigh it on a scale rather than scooping. Fresh water, always. Being an all-fish food it smells more than most — worth knowing if the bag lives in the kitchen.

A guide, not a rule. Orijen count less active as an hour or less of exercise a day and active as an hour or more. Puppies need considerably more: roughly double the adult amount from six weeks to three months, one and a half times from three to six months, and a quarter more from six to eleven. A pregnant bitch needs 25–50% more; a nursing one should be fed free-choice. Two meals a day. Fresh water, always.
