Crystals that lock away the smell and still clump well enough to scoop.
A silica crystal litter that also clumps. The crystals are a porous amorphous silica gel: urine is drawn into the pore structure, the water fraction evaporates away through the crystal surface, and the odour compounds and bacteria stay locked inside. What's different about this version is the cornstarch worked in alongside the silica — it binds wet crystals together so urine forms a flat, scoopable clump at the bottom of the tray rather than simply dispersing.
That combination is the point: you get the absorbency and low dust of crystal litter, plus the daily scoop-and-top-up routine of a clumping litter, instead of stirring a tray and replacing the whole lot on a schedule.
The crystals yellow as they work. That's normal and doesn't mean they've stopped absorbing.
Silica (amorphous silica gel crystals) and cornstarch.
Don't mix it with another litter once you're settled — the pack says so, and mixing undermines both the clumping and the absorbency. The exception is the changeover: if she's unsure about the new texture, run it 50/50 with her old litter for a couple of weeks first, then go over fully. Pour into a clean, dry tray to a depth of about 8 cm. No liner needed. Remove solid waste and the dry flat clumps daily and bin them. Do not flush them. The rest of the litter stays in the tray: just top it up to keep the level right. Empty and wash the tray out only when it's genuinely soiled. One cat, one bag, roughly 25–30 days — that's a consumption rate for topping up, not an instruction to replace the whole tray monthly. Multi-cat households get through it faster and need more frequent changes.
