Plains game — 52% protein on a dry-matter basis, and very lean.
Plains game muscle meat and hearts, trimmings, lungs and liver at 70%, with 30% fermented vegetables and fruit.
On a dry-matter basis this is the highest-protein meal in the range at 52%, and at 14% fat one of the leanest — a useful combination for a working dog or one who needs to lose a little without losing muscle. Venison is also a novel protein for most dogs, which makes it a second option if ostrich hasn't suited. Bone crunch runs through it rather than finely minced bone.
**This is a complementary food, not a complete one.** Raw Love register every meal as complementary under Act 36 of 1947 — a deliberate choice on their part, not an oversight. It means it is not formulated to meet all of your pet's needs on its own, and fed as the only thing in the bowl over months it will leave gaps.
Raw Love's own guidance is to feed variety across the proteins, add an omega-3 source — they recommend fish at least once a week, since a raw diet is typically short of it — and give raw meaty bones weekly. Do that and it works well. Feed one flavour on its own and nothing else, and it won't. If you're new to raw, talk to us or your vet about building the rest of the diet around it.
70% venison meat, 30% fermented vegetables & fruit. Plains game muscle meat & hearts, trimmings, lungs, liver, spinach, carrots, butternut, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, baby marrow, green beans, parsley, cucumber, Granny Smith apples, papaya, blueberries, kelp, alfalfa sprouts, broccoli sprouts, fenugreek sprouts, rooibos, unfiltered apple cider vinegar, kefir, moringa, diatomaceous earth. Registered as a **complementary** meal with the Department of Agriculture under Act 36 of 1947 — Reg. No. 25717.
Keep it frozen. Take out what you need the night before and let it thaw naturally in the fridge — **never microwave it, and never thaw cat meals in hot water.** Seal and refrigerate between servings, and **do not re-freeze**: it isn't cooked, and thawing twice spoils it. Leave the plate down about half an hour for a fussy eater, then refrigerate and offer again at the next meal. Wash your hands and the bowl after every feed, and don't leave leftovers standing where children or pests can reach them. Colour, texture and fat content vary between batches — that's normal in raw food, not a fault. Raw meaty bones at least once a week alongside this, and **never cooked, braaied or smoked bones** — cooked bone splinters and causes fractured teeth, obstructions and worse. Know whether a bone is edible before you give it, and watch how she handles it. **Please read before feeding.** Raw Love publish a safety notice specific to venison: because plains game is harvested with rifles or shotguns, there is a small residual possibility that a projectile fragment or buckshot pellet remains in the meat despite their controls. They recommend inspecting the meal as you portion it — particularly for a dog who swallows without chewing — and removing anything you find. If you do find something, photograph it with the tub and batch number and let us or Raw Love know.

A guide, not a rule — Raw Love say so themselves, and raw amounts vary more between dogs than kibble does. Start in the middle of her band and adjust by body condition over a fortnight. Puppies need 4–10% of body weight a day across three or four meals; adults twice a day. Fresh water, always.
