For orphaned kittens, and the ones mum can't manage.
If you've ended up with kittens and no mother — abandoned, orphaned, or a queen who can't feed them — this is what stands in for her, and the first fortnight is genuinely relentless.
The formulation is built to resemble maternal milk rather than simply approximate it: highly digestible proteins, an adapted lactose content, and no starch at all, because a newborn kitten's digestive system can't handle it. Fructo-oligosaccharides at 0.51% support the gut microbiome that's only just establishing itself, and DHA — naturally present in a queen's milk — feeds brain and cognitive development at the point it matters most. The powder dissolves instantly into a smooth milk, which matters at three in the morning. From birth to around eight weeks.
Milk retentate, milk fat, refined palm oil (from sustainable sources), whey protein, refined soya oil, refined copra oil, minerals, fructo-oligosaccharides (0.51%), fish oil (source of DHA), fungi oil.
Make up fresh for each feed and discard anything left — made-up milk is a bacterial risk within a couple of hours, and newborn kittens have no reserves. Serve at body temperature, roughly 38°C: test it on your wrist as you would for a baby. Feed with a kitten bottle, never a syringe forced quickly, and keep the kitten belly-down rather than on its back — aspiration is the commonest way hand-rearing goes wrong. Store the powder sealed in a cool, dry place. A newborn kitten that isn't gaining weight daily needs a vet, not more milk.

Royal Canin's guide, per day — Week 1, any — 7 feeds/day 2–4 ml each · Week 2, any — 6 feeds/day 5–10 ml each · Week 3, any — 5 feeds/day 10–15 ml each · Week 4, any — 5 feeds/day 10–15 ml each · Weeks 5–8, any — Reducing alongside weaning onto solid kitten food. Keyed to age, not weight. Week one means feeding through the night — every three to four hours. From week five, start offering wet kitten food alongside and let the milk taper off. Weigh them daily on kitchen scales; a kitten that isn't gaining needs a vet the same day. Fresh water available from around four weeks.
