Dense, cobby and heavy-boned. Built to stay that way.
A British Shorthair is heavy for her size — dense muscle over a broad, low frame, the kind of cat you notice when you pick her up. That build puts steady load on joints, and the breed is also predisposed to a heart condition (HCM), so this food works on both.
Protein at 34% with a moderate 19% fat holds the dense muscle mass the breed is known for without letting her tip over into overweight, which she will if allowed. Glucosamine, chondroitin and EPA/DHA at 3.5 g/kg support bones and joints; taurine at 2.6 g/kg alongside the EPA/DHA supports cardiac function, and L-carnitine at 200 mg/kg helps her metabolise fat. A precise mineral balance looks after the urinary tract. The kibble is large and curved, which forces her to chew rather than swallow whole — useful for a breed that tends to eat with more enthusiasm than care, and it does some quiet work on oral hygiene. For purebred British Shorthairs over twelve months.
Dehydrated poultry protein, rice, vegetable protein isolate (L.I.P. — protein selected for its very high digestibility), animal fats, maize, maize gluten, vegetable fibres, hydrolysed animal proteins, chicory pulp, fish oil, soya oil, minerals, yeasts and parts thereof, fructo-oligo-saccharides, hydrolysed yeast (source of manno-oligo-saccharides), borage oil, hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), marigold extract (source of lutein), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin). Additives (per kg) — Nutritional additives: Vitamin A 31,000 IU · Vitamin D3 800 IU · E1 (Iron) 40 mg · E2 (Iodine) 4 mg · E4 (Copper) 12 mg · E5 (Manganese) 51 mg · E6 (Zinc) 154 mg · E8 (Selenium) 0.08 mg · L-carnitine 200 mg · Taurine 2.6 g. Technological additives: Clinoptilolite of sedimentary origin 10 g. Preservatives. Antioxidants.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. British Shorthairs put on weight easily and hide it well under a dense coat — go by feel, not by eye. Measure her food; don't free-feed. Brush weekly, more in spring when the undercoat comes out. Worth screening the breed for HCM and PKD. Fresh water, always.

A guide, not a rule. Read from her weight — Royal Canin publishes this table in weight bands and the amounts step up across each band, so the rows below give the figure at each end. The "+ 1 pouch" rows assume one 85 g Royal Canin pouch a day alongside the dry. Most British Shorthairs are indoor cats and belong in the low-energy rows. Split across two meals. Fresh water, always.
