That back is the whole story. Keep her light while it forms.
A Dachshund's back is the reason for the breed and the reason for its biggest health problem. Intervertebral disc disease affects roughly a quarter of them, and while the genetics aren't negotiable, the weight she carries over that long spine very much is.
Fat is held to 16% — lower than most puppy foods this size — because a heavy Dachshund puppy is loading a spine that's still forming. Protein at 30% builds the back and abdominal muscle that supports it, calcium at 1.26% and phosphorus at 1% are balanced for correct bone development, and glucosamine and chondroitin are in from the start. Betaglucans and prebiotics cover the immune and digestive side. She moves onto Dachshund Adult at eleven months.
Dehydrated poultry protein, rice, maize, vegetable protein isolate (L.I.P. — protein selected for its very high digestibility), animal fats, beet pulp, hydrolysed animal proteins, soya oil, fish oil, minerals, fructo-oligo-saccharides (0.34%), hydrolysed yeast (source of manno-oligo-saccharides), yeast extracts (source of betaglucans), marigold extract (source of lutein), hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin). Additives (per kg) — Nutritional additives: Vitamin A 27,000 IU · Vitamin D3 700 IU · Vitamin E 550 mg · E1 (Iron) 40 mg · E2 (Iodine) 4 mg · E4 (Copper) 12 mg · E5 (Manganese) 52 mg · E6 (Zinc) 110 mg · E8 (Selenium) 0.09 mg. Technological additives: Clinoptilolite of sedimentary origin 10 g. Sensory additives: Yucca extract 125 mg. Preservatives. Antioxidants.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks of opening. **No stairs and no jumping on or off furniture** — put ramps where she needs them and carry her down steps while she's growing. Use a harness, never a collar. Keep her lean; every gram she doesn't carry is load off a spine that has to last. Don't let anyone pick her up under the front legs — support the chest and the hindquarters together.
