Taurine for the heart, EPA and DHA for the skin. Both breed issues.
Two things run in this breed and both are fed for here. The skin is the visible one — hot spots, itching and a coat that dulls quickly. The other is the heart: Goldens are over-represented for dilated cardiomyopathy, and taurine is among the few nutrients with real evidence behind it.
So there's taurine at 1.7 g/kg alongside EPA and DHA at 4.1 g/kg, borage oil and dehydrated tomato. Fat is held to 13% because the breed puts on weight easily and every extra kilo lands on hips that are already a known weakness, with glucosamine and chondroitin supporting them. Protein at 25% and a high fibre content keep her satisfied on less. For dogs from fifteen months.
Dehydrated poultry protein, maize, rice, wheat, hydrolysed animal proteins, animal fats, vegetable protein isolate (L.I.P. — protein selected for its very high digestibility), vegetable fibres, beet pulp, fish oil, soya oil, dehydrated tomato, minerals, fructo-oligo-saccharides, psyllium husks and seeds, hydrolysed crustaceans (source of glucosamine), borage oil (0.1%), marigold extract (source of lutein), hydrolysed cartilage (source of chondroitin). Additives (per kg) — Nutritional additives: Vitamin A 32,000 IU · Vitamin D3 900 IU · E1 (Iron) 45 mg · E2 (Iodine) 4.5 mg · E4 (Copper) 14 mg · E5 (Manganese) 59 mg · E6 (Zinc) 138 mg · E8 (Selenium) 0.1 mg. Technological additives: Clinoptilolite of sedimentary origin 10 g. Sensory additives: tea extract (source of polyphenols) 150 mg. Preservatives. Antioxidants.
Store in a cool, dry place, sealed. Use within six weeks; decant the 12 kg. Dry her properly after swimming, especially the ears and the ruff. Keep her lean — it's the single best thing for the hips. Give the skin support eight weeks before judging it. Learn the signs of bloat, and mention any exercise intolerance or coughing to your vet rather than putting it down to age.
