Royal Canin spent a long time working out what ratio of protein, fat and carbohydrate cats actually choose when given a free hand, then built a recipe to match it. That's the whole idea behind Instinctive.
The practical result is a food that gets eaten — which matters more than any nutritional claim if you've ever thrown away half a bowl every day. Alongside the palatability, the fibre blend and fat level are set to leave a cat feeling satisfied rather than looking for more an hour later, which helps with weight. The mineral balance supports urinary function, a lifelong concern in cats. Tender chunks in gravy, and the moisture in a pouch does quiet work for a cat who won't use a water bowl.
Meat and animal derivatives, fish and fish derivatives, vegetable protein extracts, cereals, derivatives of vegetable origin, minerals, yeasts.
Serve at room temperature. Cover and refrigerate leftovers and use within 24 hours. If you feed dry food as well, use the mixed rows rather than adding a pouch on top — that's the commonest way an indoor cat gains weight without anyone noticing. Fresh water, always.
