Smells of a Sunday braai. Contains no chicken whatsoever.
If you only buy one, buy this one — chicken is the flavour most dogs go for, and the braai note gives it something the plain chicken bones don't.
The flavour is infused through the nylon rather than sprayed on the outside, so it lasts the life of the chew instead of the first fortnight. And because it's a herb-and-spice flavouring with no meat in it at all, a dog who reacts to actual chicken can still have it.
Materials: 100% virgin nylon — not recycled, which TastyBone make a point of, since recycled nylon can carry whatever it was before. Flavour is human-grade, made from herbs, spices and vegetable dye, with no meat, wheat, dairy, salt, sugar or preservatives. That makes it a genuinely useful chew for a dog on an elimination diet: the taste is there, the allergen isn't.
Zero calories. Designed and made in the UK.
Sizes, as TastyBone publish them: Toy 11 cm · Small 15 cm · Large 17 cm. Pick the one that's bigger than her jaw.
Buy bigger than her mouth. TastyBone deliberately size by jaw rather than by weight — any kilogram range you see on a TastyBone listing anywhere was invented by a retailer. Their rule: always choose a bone larger than your dog's jaw, and if you're unsure, size up. More than one dog in the house? Buy for the biggest chewer. Don't throw it for her to catch. TastyBone say this outright — the impact can damage teeth. It's a chew, not a fetch toy. Inspect it before every session and check it's whole. Once it's smaller than her mouth, throw it away and start a new one. It's a chew, not food. TastyBone's own line is "for fun, not food". They also state that the rice-sized shavings that come off during chewing pass through a dog's system without harm — that's TastyBone's claim rather than ours, and it's worth knowing they publish no testing behind it. Expect her stools to change colour; TastyBone say that's the shavings passing and is normal. To clean: tepid water. If her gums bleed a little at first, TastyBone put that down to tartar and say it settles as oral hygiene improves. If it doesn't settle, see your vet.
